Glasgow - The Prospect of ye Town of Glasgow from ye North East
A detailed view of Glasgow Cathedral, with the archbishop's castle just beyond it and the city in the distance. Travellers on foot and horse approach and leave the city. The cathedral was begun in the twelfth century.
This image is taken from John Slezer's Theatrum Scotiae, 1693. Theatrum Scotiae is an important record of Scottish towns, castles and palaces in the 17th century. For most of these places, it contains some of the earliest views that survive.
Theatrum Scotiae is held in the National Library of Scotland.
The image is only available in A2 as any text or small details would not be legible in a smaller size.
