John Henry Cooke’s New Royal Circus, East Fountainbridge (Lothian Road) Edinburgh, featuring Ernestine Rosa Cooke 

The poster is from the Weir Collection of posters, playbills and photographs mainly of Edinburgh theatres in the late 19th century, and features Ernestine Rosa Cooke balancing on a bareback horse.  

As well as posters, the collection contains scenes from plays and portraits of the leading actors and actresses. It also includes black-and-white photographs of characters from pantomimes. 

The Weir Collection is held in the National Library of Scotland.
